KCC Saturday Ride to RossiniDamsel @ Market Weighton 11/02/2017
By Nigel Johnson
This was my 1st planned route for the club, my 1st effort was maybe a bit ambitious, so it was "trimmed down by the legend that is Shaun Smith AKA "Mr SAT NAV"
The route as ever started from HQ, 9 ventured out, actually 10, we were joined by Mike Meanwells new freind, Mr Go Pro! the other riders in no particular order Ian Butler, the afore mentioned Mr Meanwell, Jack Lethbridge doing a Birjoo in shorts (?? it was rain sleet and freezing) Jim (another one passed) Johnson, Rob the boy Acklam, Shaun Smith, Allen Parker me and Jo.
The club went from HQ via Dunswell Lane into Cott through Skidby Little Weighton and onto High Hunsley (Bit of a climb) dropped down into Newbald, down the Col de Newbald, the 30 sign flashhing at all of us, which warmed every one up! Onto the main road to Sancton, then through the Houghton Hall Estate which was filthy and lots of standing water, needless to say we were now well and truly wet and mud splatterd, not to worry, the Cafe was only 10 mins away, Mr Go Pro had been really busy, now taking instructions from Smithy as well as Mike!
Jacks legs arrive @ least 5 minutes before he did at the Cafe, they reserved us two tables, which was nice! Breakfast all round, but this is were it all went wrong, Jim certainley went OTT on the scones which had a massive effect later on in Etton, others were high on Espresso over Ice, massive caffeine rush!
It was sad to leave the Cafe, but we will return, Allen wanted to get a Mini Bus home, so we set off dry, fed, watered energised, off to Goodmanham then along the valley towards Etton, stiill Raining and Sleeting a slog to say the least, we kept going and going, then the fun started, me and Jo stopped at the Pub car park, we should have stayed there, only for Jim Johnson to roll in quite litterally ! The scone had had an effect, he could get out out of his cleats and came to a stunning stop and did a forward roll off his bike into the car park, still smiling!!!! Crazy Fool, Mr Go Pro missed it all,
One last challenge, Up to Cherry Burton, were the Holderness Hunt was on cars everywere. No Hooray Henrys but very considerate people, we crack on, Mr Go Pro nowere to be seen, still raining Jacks legs now Blue, so a quick blast through Beverley then home to get warm and watch City get burgalled by Arsenal, the tale of 2 hand balls!
